First up in this article by MSN
The Sony PlayStation launched in the 1994 (1995 to the UK)
The fifth generation of games consoles where Sony decided to move from classic computer cartridges and went to CD-ROMs. Having had talks over a period of time about this console it had a massive impact on the people who played them.
Second
Canon PowerShot – 1995
Don’t know much about cameras but i do know that to have 8.0 mega pixels back then it must have been some sort of break through
Third
Windows 95!! The article opens with “Remember what using a PC was like before Windows 95 arrived? ” no sorry i don’t 98 was my first computer , remembering the day it was set up and buying floppy drives to play games.
Windows 95 was a breakthrough in a simple Graphical user interface (GUI) to the average Joe.
Forth
DVD
1996 arrived the DVD player, quickly replacing VHS due to their larger storage capacity, better quality and let’s face it smaller forum factor. DVD’s were a brilliant invention back then…they still are 15 years on, they have yet to be replaced although this point could be argued.
Fifth
First flat-screen TV – 1998
Personally love these, all I’d say about this technology is that this is where cathode ray tubes were replaced with Volatile displays such as plasma and LCD displays.
Sixth
The dawn of Google -1998
I remember trying to avoid Google at first with Dog pile and Ask Jeeves but when I finally gave in I realised Google was a much better choice.
Google, since its release has grown into many areas with Android (which I may post my paper on, depending on feedback) and Google Maps.
In due course, they transformed the name to Google, originating from a wrong spelling of the word “googol”, the number one followed by one hundred zeros, which was picked to signify that the search engine wants to provide large quantities of information for people.
Originally, Google ran under the Stanford University website, with the domain google.stanford.edu.
Seventh
The Nokia 3210 released in 1999, the first phone to feature an internal aerial….My first phone…what can I say it has the snake game and it did what phones do.
Eighth
WI-FI as the article says WI-FI was a bit of a pain to set up when it first came about. I remember trying pretty much everything to get it to work even pushing my computer desk down the hall, in the end I won though.
WI-FI is still very much alive and I think at last count 90% of the homes in the UK had some form of WI-FI within it.

Ninth
Apple iPod – 2001
Never really been a music man even though I now have an iPod, however I can still see how Apple once again came up with a brilliant piece of kit (Proved with hindsight with the iPhones and iPads).
Tenth
Sky+ – 2001
SKY + well I’ve never been a fan of sky being that I hardly watch TV but I’d say SKY + has become Skys best brand because its realised we can only watch one thing at any one time and that we can only be anyone place at any one time. Which I believe was the grounding for this technology.
Eleventh
TomTom sat-nav – 2002
I like this quote from the article” immediately preventing a whole generation of couples from arguing over their map-reading skills.” Probably because it’s true. Great invention taping into a market that was needed but never successfully branded or marketed correctly, with a product that could deliver a reasonable level of navigation.
Twelfth and had to be on the list
FACEBOOK! 2004
Social media at its finest…created by Mark Zuckerberg student of Harvard university
Thirteenth but definitely not unlucky
The Apple IPhone released in 2007 once again showing apple come in with another well design product and blow the market away.
Fourteenth
I was surprised to see the Asus Eee PC released in 2007 on the list…so what did they say about it.
“Asus’ Eee PC was originally designed for educational use in developing counties. It was cheap to manufacture and ideal for children’s’ tiny fingers. Yet it very quickly established a new category in the laptop market in the west.
This was because netbooks such as the Eee PC and its many successors are super handy for adults. “You can carry them everywhere and they serve all your basic office and online needs,” says John Houlihan, editor-in-chief of the CVG games website network.”
Finally!
The Apple iPad as far as I know yet to be rivalled from reviews I have read but worrying on the new marketing focus Apple have taken over the last two year, however I don’t have any grounding to say anymore, because the fact is, if you create a superior product you should reap the rewards.
On a final note myself I think that the Xbox 360 new version should have been included or Windows Live simply because they are great inventions also.
